Thank you for wanting to learn a little more About Us here at Hansen Vineyards & Winery. As a Small Boutique Winery , we offer Ultra-premium hand-made wines produced in small lots from our very own winery and vineyard. We specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon, but also produce small amounts of Zinfandel and Viognier. Our vineyards consist of 30 acres of 10-20 year old root stock and the soil consists of mainly nutrient rich black adobe with an abundance of shale and limestone. The wines are aged in 100% French Oak barrels, ranging in age on a medium toast. Visit our uniquely rustic tasting room and experience some serious wine, talk with the owner-winemaker and enjoy the fun atmosphere!
Our philosophy behind producing our world class artisinal wines is to have patience and trust in the wines and use the best barrels that match the wine. Over the years, Bruce has tried several different types of oak and each has a very unique flavor. He has finally settled on French Oak Barrels that come from a particular forest in the Bordeaux region. However, he does occasionally experiment with other barrels from time to time to make sure that the wines are responding properly. The reasoning behind Bruce’s wines being so drinkable shortly after he bottles is due to the long aging process in the barrel. Typically his Cabernet Sauvignons are aged from 2 1/2 – 4 1/2 years which is unheard of, but the results are amazing.
For the last decade, Bruce has been nicknamed the “King of the Cabs” because he has anywhere from 3-8 bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon on the tasting bar at any given time. So when guests visit other wineries in the Paso Robles area and they ask where they can find the best cabs, they are referred to us. Bruce’s Cabernet gained international acclaim at the 2013 Taster’s Guild International Competition where his 2009 Limited Cabernet Sauvignon and 2010 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon both received Double Gold Medals and where his 2010 Marquis Zinfandel received a gold medal along with 3 other Cabernet Sauvignons, which sold out.
