At Hansen Vineyards, we produce award winning artisanal estate wines in very limited quantities. Our well established vineyards are irrigated year round and our vines are deep rooted in a black adobe soil with an abundance of shale and limestone. The climate in the El Pomar Region of the Central Coast provides the perfect climate for Bordeaux varietals due to the usually extreme temperature changes between night and day, sometimes jumping up to a 40 degree difference! Our harvest generally begins in early September with our Viognier grapes and typically ends in mid to late November with our Zinfandel. Our grapes are hand-picked in the early morning at full ripeness, then fermented in small open top fermentors with Bordeaux yeast for 20-60 days. All of our wines are aged in 100% French Oak barrels with a medium toast for 2-4 years. The barrels begin new and age along with the wines.
